English
In English class we have commenced our unit on Adventure Stories. By reading, analyzing, and completing activities on both The Tunnel and Where the Wild Things Are, students have been able to enhance their understanding the core components of an adventure story (plot, setting, main characters, etc).
In English class we will be writing our own Adventure Stories using a wide variety of complex verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
Math
In Maths, we have been working to use multiple of 5 and 10 bonds to 100 to solve additions and subtractions and add and subtract 1-digit numbers to and from 2-digit numbers. Below is a copy of our Mastery Checklist for the week:
Recall or quickly find multiples of 5 bonds to 100
Use number bonds and number patterns to add and subtract 1-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers
Add several numbers, spotting doubles and bonds.
Know multiplication and division facts for the 5, 10, 2, 4 and 3 times-tables; doubling and halving. Recall doubles of numbers 1 to 20, derive the related halves and apply reasoning skills to choose numbers that will give the longest halving chains. Double 2-digit numbers to 50 and halve 2-digit numbers up to 100.
