Comic books - Peer review

After completing our wonderful comic books, we had a lesson where the children could look at their friend's work. The children were asked to help identify what their friends did well and what they could improve upon for next time.

Art - Island models

This week, we continued our unit of work on 'Islands' and began constructing our 3D islands. The children were enormously excited to be making their very own 3D islands.

Next Week

English
This week we have finally completed our comic books and even managed to sneak in some role playing as superheroes and villains. Overall, it has been a fun and exciting unit of learning for the students.
  • we begin our next unit on Poetry.
Math
This week we’ve been learning all about symmetry and right angles in 2D shapes. We’ve found lines of symmetry by folding shapes to check if they’re even on both sides and we’ve sorted them into venn diagrams based on their features.
  • Sort shapes according to their properties using a 2-way Carroll diagram
  • Understand that 2D shapes with straight sides are polygons and so identify polygons
Humanities
This week we used paper mache to make our model islands.
  • to identify likes and dislikes about a place - Koh Samet and Bangkok.
Science
This week we focussed our attention on animals and their young. This included the objective of knowing the appropriate vocabulary for animal babies such as ‘calf, foal and owlet’ to name a few. We also looked at the differences between animals and their babies in their appearance.
  • that babies and children need to be looked after while they are growing
  • to ask questions in order to make simple comparisons of babies and toddlers
Art
We used newspaper and cardboard to construct our model islands.
  • To paint our islands models using appropriate colours.
PSHE
We made a class ‘web’ by passing a ball of string across a circle and saying something nice about the person we passed it too. In the end we were all connected and we felt good too because we’d given lots of compliments.
  • New beginnings PSHE scheme.
Notices and Events
Trip to Kidzania - please remember to give the class teacher the completed permission slip and money soon for our trip to Kidzania.

House colours day

Last week we celebrated our House Colours day - the children had a wonderful time, learning about teamwork, creativity and understanding the importance of the house system.

Humanities - Island planning

l
Last week, we took the first step of creating our own islands. The children had to rely on all their knowledge of islands to plan the island that they will make.

English
This week, we have begun to create our very own comic books, using the superheroes and villains that we have designed.
  • We will finish off our comic books by including speech bubbles and sound words and have a lengthy review of our friend’s work too.
Maths
We have been using our number bonds to 10 and 20 to help us answer bigger sums. We have also began learning how to bridge 10 when adding.
  • Identify 2D shapes
  • Recognise, name and describe squares, rectangles, circles and triangles
  • Sort 2D shapes by number of sides and corners (incl. right angles) using Venn diagrams
Humanities
We have compared an island locality with a city locality and used our senses to think about what we might hear, see, feel and smell in each place.
  • Using papier mache to construct our island models.
Science
Our main learning objective was to understand the importance of exercise and to observe what happens to our bodies after exercise. This include some activities such as dancing and star jumps which the children enjoyed greatly.
  • That animals (including humans) produce young and these grow into children and new adults.
Art
We finished our treasure maps by tea staining them, ripping them around the edges and crumpling them.
  • Constructing an island model.
PSHE
We learnt about Eid Al-Adha.
  • New beginnings PSHE scheme.
