English
This week, we began our unit on ‘Instructions’ - the children were beginning to understand the features of instructions such as bossy words, and how they are organised. We even managed to follow instructions to make bread and then proceed to create our own bread making instructions.
  • Book week activities centred around our favourite book.
Math
This week we’ve been using 100 Squares to add and subtract 10 from 2 digit numbers. We’ve been thinking about how 2 digit numbers are made from 10’s and 1’s and used bead strings to help us see how many groups of 10 and how many 1’s are in a number.
  • Add 10, 20 and 30 to any 2-digit number
  • Subtract 10, 20, 30 from any 2-digit number (>30)
  • Add 11, 21, 12 and 22 to any 2-digit number
  • Subtract 11, 12, 21, 22, from any number by counting back in 10s and adjusting
Humanities
This week we looked at pictures from seasides in the past and asked questions about them. We learnt about how holidays to the beach were different many years ago.
  • To identify similarities and differences between beach holidays now and in the past.
Science
We have been exploring our local environment to discover what sort of plants and animals we could find. Some attention was also given to how we can explore safely and how to avoid damaging plants and animals.
  • that there are differences between local habitats
  • to make predictions about the animals and plants found in different local habitats and to investigate these
  • to use drawings to present results and make comparisons saying whether their predictions were supported
Art
This week we thought about how a viewfinder works on a camera and how we can use this to zoom in on interesting sections of a scene. We can use the zoom to focus in on detail.
  • To use a viewfinder to draw a detailed section of a picture.

Halloween

Last week we celebrated Halloween with a fancy dress day on Friday. We also looked at the origins of Halloween and had some Halloween party games too.

My Imaginary monster

Last week we celebrated Halloween with some fun activities. A highlight was when the children were asked to create monsters and select the appropriate adjectives for their monsters - words such as 'big, scary, etc'.
