Year 3 Homework
Set: Monday 29th August Due: Monday 5th September
Maths:	To practice numbers bonds to 10 and number bonds to 100. http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Times tables:	3 x tables Learn them so you can say them without stopping: 1x3=3, 2x3=6, 3x3=9, 4x3=12... Be able to answer questions out of order : what is 5x3, what is 2x3, what is 8x3?
Grammar:	Verbs Can you find the verbs in your reading books? Note them down in your reading diary.
Reading:	To read at least 2 books and complete an activity in your reading diary for each book you have read.
Inquiry:	To complete a picture collage of your culture. E.g. where you live, who you live with, what food you eat, what celebrations you celebrate, what types of clothes you wear etc. If you wish to make a picture on your computer or iPad please email to kniveton@ascot.ac.th by Friday 2nd September.

Story Mountain

The Tunnel

This half term we are learning about adventure stories. Today we read the story The Tunnel and plotted out the story on a story mountain. We learnt what a conflict and resolution was.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to a new year at Ascot. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the coming year. As your son or daughter’s teacher, it is my goal to help him/her become a confident learner and I will do my best to help make this year a positive experience for your child.

This year we will be reading a variety of texts including reading books, newspapers, nonfiction articles, chapter books and poetry.  We will also have a reading log the children will take home to record the books they have read as part of their weekly homework. In English, we will practice grammar skills weekly and occasionally the children will have grammar homework. In Maths, we will continue to use Abacus for homework and the children will be required to learn some of their times tables as part of the Year 3 Maths curriculum. 

We will continue to study our foundation subjects through units of inquiry. The children will practice their research and inquiry skills and become more independent in their learning. In addition, the children will be given inquiry homework where appropriate. 

The children are required to bring their P.E. Kit every Monday and swimming kit every Wednesday. Every child should have a hat to wear at play time. If the children do not bring in a hat they are not allowed to pay at break times. If the children do not bring in their swimming kit they are not allowed to play at play time. 

In regards to communication, email is preferred but if you would ever like to speak over the phone or in person, please do not hesitate to make an appointment. Communication is key and I'm always available to discuss matters relating to your child's education.

Finally, I would like to say just how excited I am to begin the academic year. I look forward to meeting each of you in person and working in partnership with you throughout the coming year. Reading	Oxford Owl is a great place to find all the students' favourite books with familiar characters such as Biff, Chip and Floppy. There are also a variety of nonfiction books covering a range of subjects. Oxford Owl is a free service, although you will need to make an account to use it. Books are tablet friendly so they can be read on the go. Summer reading journal - have fun playing bingo and reading at the same time with this summer reading activity. Maths	Review Abacus homework games and keep practicing the skills learnt during Y2. Khan academy is a wonderful online resource with video tutorials showing mathematical concepts. There are also small tests after each video to practice the skills learnt. English	We continued with our memory books based on our time in Year 2. We also completed various activities such as writing a letter for our new teacher and writing a letter for the future year 2 class.	End of term activities
Math	We have been counting in threes and learning about the 3 times table. We have used arrays to find the answers to multiplication sums and found out that multiplication is commutative. That means that a multiplication sum can be written in two ways which have the same answer, such as 2x6=12 and 6x2=12.	End of term activities
Art	We made a piece of Art for our new teachers in Year 3, which involved choosing lots of adjectives that we felt described ourselves and focussed on writing the adjectives in various styles and bubble writing.	End of term activities

Art

Last week we finished our airplanes and they are proudly hanging in the entrance of the Primary building. Many thanks to the parents for helping us on Open day and for bringing in plenty of recycled materials for us to build with.
