Recycled art

This week we continued our good work on the environment and explored new ways of using materials such as bottles for an art activity. The children learned how to make flowers using the top half of plastic bottles and created a very colourful display outside our class.

English
This week we continued our good work on explanation texts by looking at how to create our own flow charts. The children had to be mindful of including all the features needed and to ensure they have provided ample information about what they have chosen to based their texts on.
  • trip writing after our visit to Grandpa’s city garden, weekend news and comprehension work
Math
We’ve been using our number bonds to help us answer addition and subtraction sums with missing numbers. We’ve also been finding the difference between two 2-digit numbers and answering worded problems related to addition and subtraction.
  • Rehearse complements to multiples of 10;
  • find differences using a number line;
  • find change from 10B and 20B and from 100B to 200B by counting up and using bonds to 10 and 20;
  • add two 2-digit numbers by counting on
Humanities
We learnt about the three R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. We found out about things which we can reduce such as the amount we use cars or the number of plastic bags we use. We found out about things which can be reused such as clothes. We found out about things which can be made into new items, such as plastics and glass.
  • School trip
Science
This week we wrote our second entry into our plant diaries - so far we have not seen any growth but fingers crossed that we will have something soon!
  • We begin our next unit on forces - recapping pushes and pulls.
Art
This week we used bottles to make some recycled art. We turned them into flowers which you can see displayed on the classroom door.
  • To use recycled items to produce new art.

New Year's resolutions

Last week we discussed the New Year and what we felt we could do better or how we can help others this year. After some very thoughtful discussions the children settled for two resolutions. These will be displayed soon in the front entrance of the Primary building.

Maths - counting in 2s, 5s, 10s

Last week we began by reviewing counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children had an opportunity to apply this knowledge using money - for example, by understanding that five 10 baht coins make 50 baht.
