	This Week	Next Week
English	We finished publishing our Fables and began a new unit exploring ‘Explanation Texts.’ We looked at identifying the features of an explanation text and compared it to other text types.	We will continue to read various exploration texts and create flow charts to help in writing our own.
Math	We looked decimal numbers; placing them on number lines, rounding to the nearest whole number and multiplying/dividing by 10 and 100. We reviewed column addition and adding two 4-digit numbers.	We will add/subtract amounts of money using various mental and written methods; work on solving word problems and choosing the best methods to do so.
UOI	We continued our exploration of the unit and investigated some ways the earth keeps changing, both natural and man-made. We thought about what makes a good presentation and made a rubric to help us in doing our own presentation.	We will begin to make a Google slide presentation.

During the 'Tuning In' part of our UOI, we reflected on all of the things that we already know about the topic, as well as the things that we are curious to find out. 

Fables

Last week, we acted out the different fables that we had been studying in the classroom!

English	We talked about our holidays, and reviewed the features of a personal recount, focusing on using the past tense and putting events in chronological order. We wrote, edited and published a personal recount of our holidays to put on display.	We will start our unit on ‘Fables’ to read, compare and contrast many different fables. We will look at the features of a fable and work towards writing our own.
Math	We explored geometry looking at acute, obtuse and right angles; parallel and perpendicular lines and began to review the properties of regular and irregular 2D shapes.	We will continue to look at regular and irregular 2D shapes and learn about lines of symmetry.
UOI	We began a new unit ‘How the World Works’ by designing and creating a title page for our journals and collaboratively worked on preparing the board to help focus our inquiry.	We will continue to unpack the central theme and main idea, finding ways of recording what we know and need to know about the structure of the Earth.
