  • tell the time involving multiples of 5 minutes past the hour and 5 minutes to the hour;
  • tell time to 5 minutes;
  • begin to say the time 10 minutes later
Inquiry
This week we had activities to further the use of Maths when learning about products and how they are made. This involved block graphs, Venn diagrams and an activity to make the price for products we know.
  • We will finish our inquiry by reflecting on the learning journey we had have. This will include discussing what we have learnt, what we can do next and how to improve for our next inquiry unit.

A little something cooking school trip

Last week we visited A little something cooking school. The children had a great time making spaghetti carbonara and a Thai dessert. This was to support our learning about how products were made and we were very interested in how fresh pasta was made.

Science Day photos

Some photos from our class experiment in class - we investigated making rainbows in a cup. The students had to use sugar, water and food colouring to change the density of the water in order to create layers in the cup.

Important open day information for parents!

Dear Parents,

Due to the high number of responses and limited class sizes, the open day event next Monday 23rd May at 8-10am will be limited to one parent per child.

Also, the activity will involve craft making as we'll be beginning our model aeroplane unit. Therefore, please wear clothes which you do not mind getting a little messy.

Finally, if you have any unused cardboard boxes and plastic bottles at home, please bring them in.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Kind regards,

Miss Lavery and Mr Linden

Term 2 Week 3

Next Week

English
We began looking at the parts of a story and using a story mountain to assist with this. First the students had to discuss familiar stories and match the events to the relevant section on the story mountain. We also had a close look at adjectives used in familiar stories and why.
  • We will plan a story using a story mountain format and begin to write some really epic stories.
Math
This week we used the column method of adding to add 2-digit numbers. We started by adding two 2-digit numbers without regrouping and then we moved on to adding 1 and 2-digit numbers with regrouping. We understand that regrouping is necessary if the sum of two digits is greater than 10. We can carry over the 10s digit and add it to the other digits in the 10s column.
  • Measure weight using standard or uniform non-standard units;
  • draw a block graph where one square represents two units;
  • weigh items using 100g weights using scales marked in multiples of 1kg or 100g;
  • measure capacity using uniform non-standard units;
  • measure capacity in litres and in multiples of 100ml.
Inquiry
This week we began an in depth look at how a product is made. The class were put into groups and had to find information about their given product and represent this on a poster.
  • Next week we will be ‘going further’ - the students will have to decide the next step of their inquiry and which aspects they would like to focus on.
Art
This week we continued our work on aeroplanes - this ranged from including more practise at drawing aeroplanes with the correct perspective and also making other aeroplane art.
  • We’ll continue our aeroplane project by creating more aeroplane art.
Notices and Events
  • Letters confirming students for the science fair were given out Friday - the date for the Science fair is 13th May
