Dinosaurs!!

Last week we started our topic of dinosaurs. We read  'Harry and the bucket full of dinosaurs' and established that a lot of the boys love dinosaurs! During our joint activities with RS we made paper plate dinosaurs and the boys loved to make a home for the dinosaurs to play in, creating trees for them to eat from, and lakes for them to drink from. Children used stencils to prepare fantastic artwork.

In maths we determined how many cubes wide and long a dinosaurs foot might be, and that we need 18 pairs of shoes to fill the whole area of a dinosaurs foot.

Under the Sea continues..

Our classroom door of sea turtles.
We had a busy week as we finished our under the sea topic. The children made walruses and turtles and made a book with their favourite sea animals that they have been learning about the last three weeks.

In maths we looked at the thai baht coins and practice counting in tens. Children enjoyed making play dough food to sell and loved playing shop!

Apps for iPads

During parent consultations it was brought to my attention than many children in Reception do have access to an iPad. I was asked about possible apps that could help children with their reading skills. Whilst I cannot find any free apps I would recommend either of these two apps from Starfall ($2.99 each).

Please remember however to limit the time your child used an iPad.

Under the Sea

The children were very happy to see each other last Tuesday and also to welcome our new student in RM. Welcome to our class Grace!

Our theme for the next two weeks is Under the Sea. We read the story "The Rainbow fish' and discussed the importance of being nice to our friends and sharing. During literacy we talked about different sea animals. In maths we practiced our number order and counting on, making jellyfish with 10 legs and playing snakes and ladders.

In our joint activities with RS we made some sea creature crafts including a CD rainbow fish, a funky fish and a spotted seahorse. We experimented with water and paint to create some amazing sea like effects on paper towels, and designed some boats out of lots of different materials to see if they sank or if they floated.

Welcome Grace!
