Elmer the Elephant

This week we have been looking at colours and what better way to open this topic than with Elmer the patchwork elephant?! The children listened to lots of stories about Elmer and the jokes he liked to play on his friends. Please find the link below to the original Elmer the Patchwork Elephant story.

Our activities this week involved making our very own unique Elmer the elephant. We also made a big class Elmer showing great team work, sharing and negotiation to finish it beautifully. I'm sure you'll agree the end result was great!

Here are some of our individual creations.

And here is our great team effort. A classroom Elmer!

Team effort!
In maths this week we have been taking away one. We played games with animals determining how many would be left if one ran away, or swam away as Harbin corrected me, she was collecting some sea creatures!

Here the children are following a colour code to colour in an Elmer elephant. The children sounded out the first letter of the colours, well done RM!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy half term break RM, you have worked really hard this term!!
See you all on Monday 28th October for spooky Halloween week!!!

My Senses!!

This week we have been looking at 'My Senses'. We smelt lots of different things trying to guess what they were and had a range of things to touch and feel. We decided if they were hard, soft, smooth or rough.

Smooth

Soft

Hard

Rough

Soft

We have been making lovely flowers.

We have been 'fishing' for sounds in phonics.

Finally we completed our jungle jigsaw. Well done, great team work!!

In maths we have been 'adding one more'. We took one more brick that the number rolled on the dice and made some beautiful buildings,

and we made one more yummy item of food out of play dough for Peppa pig!

Healthy Foods!!

Our topic this week has been healthy food. I was happy to hear that all the children like fruit and vegetables when asked what their favourite food was. We talked about foods that are delicious such as chocolate, sweets and ice-cream but also discussed that they are not so healthy if we eat too many of them!! The children got top marks in our sorting game of healthy and unhealthy foods. The children obviously know how to make healthy food choices.

We also talked about trying new foods and made 'ants on a log' with celery, cream cheese and raisins. Children were asked to carefully place five raisins on the log and were encouraged to try the taste. The raisins were  the most popular, followed by the cheese with celery coming least favourite I'm afraid!!!

I love raisins!!

Princess Ailynn busted with the remains of the cheese!!!
In our groups this week we have been playing Bingo, telling stories, making pizzas and collaging fruit. A busy week!!

Making pizzas!

Decorating fruit.

Eyes down for Bingo!

Bingo!!!

We finished off our day making some arty apples, practicing counting five again with seeds in the middle of our apple.
