Last week we discussed the New Year and what we felt we could do better or how we can help others this year. After some very thoughtful discussions the children settled for two resolutions. These will be displayed soon in the front entrance of the Primary building.

Maths - counting in 2s, 5s, 10s
Last week we began by reviewing counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children had an opportunity to apply this knowledge using money - for example, by understanding that five 10 baht coins make 50 baht.

We will begin looking at explanation texts and their features.

This week we’ve been recapping how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We used our knowledge of this to help us count amounts of money up to 30Baht using 1, 2, 5 and 10B coins.

Humanities

We started our new topic all about environments. We looked at lots of pictures of different environments and we identified what makes a good environment and what makes a bad environment.
|
|
Science
|
We recapped our understanding of seeds and that plants produce seeds. The children participated in a carousel of activities based on where the seeds are in the plant, what part of the plant do we eat and matching names to various fruits and vegetables.
|
We will plants some seeds and record a diary based on our observations - some plants will not have water or light to demonstrate to the children what happens to the plants in these conditions.

Reminder about Maths homework
Dear Parents,
Just a gentle reminder regarding Maths Homework. With the new year I would really like the students to complete their homework in a timely fashion and to really benefit and become accustomed to the online learning. If there are any issues please let me know.
Many thanks for your support
Karel Linden
Welcome back and Happy new year!
Welcome back for Term 2 and I hope that everybody had a great holiday. I would like to thanks all parents and students for the enormous amount of generosity with all the gifts that Kru B and I received. It was certainly very kind of you all.
I believe that this next term will see us learning and working together and continuing our good year so far. We have many fun events ahead and plenty of things to look forward to.
Another newsworthy item is that I would like to welcome a new student, Kim, to our class. I know that everybody will help contribute to making sure that he feels welcomed and settled in his new surroundings.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Karel Linden

In Literacy we’ve been busy completing phonics and reading assessments.

In Maths we looked at adding and subtracting two 2 digit numbers using the column method, not passing through 10. We also found out that when adding near doubles, such as 7+8, it’s easier to do 7+7 first and then add 1 more, using our knowledge of doubles to help us.
