Under the Sea

The children were very happy to see each other last Tuesday and also to welcome our new student in RM. Welcome to our class Grace!

Our theme for the next two weeks is Under the Sea. We read the story "The Rainbow fish' and discussed the importance of being nice to our friends and sharing. During literacy we talked about different sea animals. In maths we practiced our number order and counting on, making jellyfish with 10 legs and playing snakes and ladders.

In our joint activities with RS we made some sea creature crafts including a CD rainbow fish, a funky fish and a spotted seahorse. We experimented with water and paint to create some amazing sea like effects on paper towels, and designed some boats out of lots of different materials to see if they sank or if they floated.

Welcome back to Term 3!

Hope you and your child have had a great Songkran holiday and your child is excited to be coming back to school tomorrow. This term we will be studying all types of living things starting off with sea creatures. If you have any old CDs or DVDs that no longer play, please could we have them for one of our sea crafts?

During the last week of term we did lots of activities centered around a favourite movie of many of the children, 'Frozen'. We made Elsa capes and crowns (and prince's capes and crowns for the boys!), and some children made an Olaf snowman. Later in the week we celebrated Easter by decorating our very own egg and finished the week with an interesting candy hunt in the Early years playground.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!!

This week in reception we have been reading the story Rapunzel. During our joint activities with RS some children made some fantastic towers out of junk whilst others role played the story with our dolls house and others tried to write key words from the story. 

In maths we revised our shapes trying to describe them in terms of number of sides, corners and whether the sides were straight or curvy. We then went onto 3D shapes deciding how they are different to 2D shapes.

We finished off the week decorating leaves for our word beanstalk which has all our high frequency words that we are learning in reception.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Last week's story was 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Children had fun planting beans and recording their results in a diary. They were excited to look at their beans everyday to see how much they had grown. Children made a book also retelling the story with pictures.  We all decided that Jack wasn't really a good boy for stealing gold from the giant!

During our joint activities with RS we decorated leaves for a beanstalk, planted our beans, retold the story using our dolls' house as a castle, played with balances weighing the money that Jack stole from the giant, and making a lovely picture of Jack's house and the beanstalk in his garden. Children played with the emotion puppets deciding if the giant was happy, sad or angry that his gold was stolen!!

Finally we made a beanstalk and tried to write as many letters as we could on the leaves in capitals and lowercase.
